Distant Horizons specialises in outdoor challenge events and team building days. We pride ourselves on the quality of our service giving you the best experience available. From the moment you call we will look after your group providing friendly professional advice to ensure you get what you need.
The company has been running events for over 20 years and boasts:

Our services allow us to offer an all-inclusive package providing transport, catering, accommodation, all technical equipment and guides and instructors throughout.
Our focus is using the outdoors to stimulate and challenge whether it is aimed at taking people out of their comfort zones to help them realise their potential and take learning back to the workplace, or for an incentive or corporate fundraising event. Whatever you are looking for we can design an event from half a day to a multiple day experience guaranteeing your team has a valuable and fulfilling event.
Challenge events
Used with great success our challenge events are designed to run for small groups of 7 to 200+ people, to suit a range of motivations including charity challenges. With our all-inclusive packages all participants are given the same excellent equipment to aid them in their challenge. Our dedicated team will design and co-ordinate the challenge with you from design to delivery, taking all of the hassle out of your next event.
Team building & development
Designed to meet your specification & suit your motivations we can design and facilitate a course for your team. Use these courses either as a fun incentive or combine the latest training & management theories with powerful experiential delivery.

The options are vast but it’s just a matter of giving us a few details for us to create your ideal event.

Outdoor training courses
As Distant Horizons is heavily involved in the outdoors through challenge events and team building we use our expertise to provide technical training courses. We run technical courses for all the relevant activities previously listed to include beginner to advanced rock climbing tuition, navigation days, canoe and kayak skills, and winter & summer mountaineering including ice climbing.
If you are planning a high altitude mountaineering trip we run crevasse rescue training courses in our purpose built training centre as well as catering for other rope access needs you may have. With caving ladders and all the up to date gadgets on the market we can arm you with all the skills to ensure your trip is an enjoyable and safe one.
Our instructors are highly skilled and qualified with many years in the ropes access and outdoor industry making sure you are in very competent hands. All our courses are tailored to the participants with 1:1 or small group sessions available.
Equipment hire
Providing a wide range of activities means a large supply of outdoor equipment and we offer equipment hire all year round from canoe hire to crampon and ice axe hire, to include delivery. Our collection includes:

Family and friends activity days
If you are a family or group of friends we also offer activity days during the holidays and year round. Take your pick from all our available activities and we will arrange a session for you. Our indoor sessions can last as little as one hour or combine several to create your ideal multi-activity adventure day. If you need some inspiration just ask and we will design a day that suits your groups interests abilities and age range making sure there is something for everyone.
We provide all technical equipment and clothing, highly qualified and experienced instructors, transport to activity locations and changing and showering facilities. You can either meet us at the Distant Horizons centre and take advantage of our fantastic facilities leaving your vehicle safe on our private estate, or if it is more practical we can meet you at an arranged location or even collect you from your home or accommodation. As we provide all the technical stuff all you need is comfortable clothing, with spares for wet activities, and we’ll look after the rest. We will even provide lunch, or BBQ on a beach, on request.
Great wet weather alternatives
Make the most out of the rainy days on one of our gorge walks or canyoning trips. These great activities get you climbing waterfalls and jumping into plunge pools as you explore the ghylls of the Lake District.
Or…….
Visit our indoor activity centre and get a head for heights on our climbing wall. With a professional instructor looking after you learn the techniques and do all the climbing you wish with something for everyone to try. If that’s not enough you can have a go on our abseil wall, tight rope and crate stack. If you’d rather keep your feet on the group we also have an indoor archery range. Pay one price and try any combination of activities you fancy during your session. Activities are suitable for children 4 upwards
